ESRT train with local Guides

Baden Powell Award

Members of ESRT helped Guides from all over the South West celebrate their Baden Powell award recently, joining them at their residential weekend at Pinkery Centre on the moor. The team put on a mornings activities comprising a potted introduction to Navigation, Search, Comms and First Aid, all the skills they would need to carry out a search for a missing person.

There then followed a mini scenario where a leader had gone out early to put out an orienteering course, but had not returned for breakfast as expected. The four groups of guides set to work with keen enthusiasm, organising team roles, getting briefed and carrying out a search.

Team Zero Two quickly locating the casualty who had slipped, cutting their head and breaking an ankle.Team zero 4 were speedily on scene with all the equipment needed for a swift evacuation, though they were all surprised by just how heavy a short carry out was over rough terrain.  All the guides did really well and seemed to enjoy their taster of being in a Search and Rescue team.

Well done to them all for achieving their Baden Powell Award.
