For many years, the Exmoor Search and Rescue Team have operated from a small industrial unit in Barnstaple. The unit has served the team well during this time, however in recent years the team have outgrown the permises and for the past year and more, a search has been undertaken for a new home. The search area was very restrictive - a small band of land within a few miles of the main arterial route between Barnstaple, Tiverton and onwards towards Taunton. Excellent transport links and close proximity to Exmoor National Park were essential.
It was quickly apparent that South Molton, Gateway to Exmoor, would make an ideal location. The team are now very pleased to announce that within the last two weeks, contracts have been signed for new premises on the Pathfields Business Park on the outskirts of South Molton. The premises currently stand as an empty industrial unit, however over the course of the next few months the team will be adapting the property for our operational needs.
This will include creating a garaging area for two rescue vehicles, kit storage areas, equipment drying facilities and team training room. Once complete, the new Rescue Centre will be born and the team will be moving out of our current premises in Barnstaple. The new rescue centre in South Molton, together with our third rescue vehicle based in Wellington and team kit stores in both Barnstaple and Taunton will mean that the team can serve our operational area more quickly and efficiently than ever before.
