Joint Working with DSFRS

Establishing relations with the Fire & Rescue Service

The Team attend the Fire and Rescue Service Open Day in Barnstaple

Members of Exmoor Search and Rescue Team attended an open day at Barnstaple Fire Station last week to celebrate the joint working between the two organisations and promote the role of both parties to other interested members of the North Devon community.  The event was well attended by local dignitaries as well as representatives of the Fire and Rescue Service from the county.

The Barnstaple Fire and Rescue Service crew gave a demonstration of a rope rescue, highlighting the new skills of the watch as a Level 3 Rope Response unit.  This was invaluable for the Team to observe the ways in which F&R perform vertical rescue, noting the similarities and differences between this and the Team's own systems, which are currently being developed.  Several presentations were then given on the ‘Safer North Devon’ project.

The morning proved to be a great opportunity to make contacts, discuss potential funding streams and start spreading the word about the forthcoming opening of the Team's new Rescue Centre on 2nd May 2011.
