Developing skills in Technical Rescue
Visiting the Fire Service and learning the ropes on Dartmoor.
Exmoor Search & Rescue Team have recently started forming a new Technical Rescue section which, in the first instance, aims to extend the team's operational capabilities in the area of vertical rope rescue. The new section will enable the team to assist both local rescue organizations and other Mountain Rescue teams nationally with specially trained resources and advice.
The members of the new section were recently invited to the opening of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service’s new Technical Rescue tower at Bridgwater Fire Station.
The Fire Service's own Technical Rescue Team demonstrated a number of their techniques and members of Exmoor Search and Rescue Team had the opportunity to look around the facilities and discuss rescue techniques. The desire is to be able to use the facilities and embark on some joint training in the near future.
The following day, the Technical Rescue Team visited Dartmoor to practice ‘pick off’ rescue of a stranded climber on Hound Tor. A successful days training was completed despite gale force winds!
